Somehow, I completely forgot to report on the latest from submissionland:
Though I thought I’d wait for the Codex Halloween Contest result before sending out Toby’s trophies, I suddenly realized there was no reason to. It should be at Alfred Hitchcock’s Mystery Magazine by now. I’m not entirely sure if it’s their cup of tea (or, to stay in the spirit of the magazine, bucket of blood), but it’s suspenseful, there’s crime involved, and it has no speculative elements whatsoever (unlike Queen of Diamonds, which they rejected for not being believable).
Speaking of Queen of diamonds: Nancy Fulda, fellow Codexian and Baen’s Universe editor / slush reader, sent me a nice personal rejection. Queen of diamonds is now on its way to Realms of Fantasy, an SFWA-qualifying market I’ve never submitted to before for some reason (they may have been closed to submissions).
Finally, Prisoner of war is still with the Weird Tales editors. After I receive the expected rejections for Queen and Prisoner, I’ll switch the two stories around and send them to the same two markets.
